Clubs, Sports, & Activities FAQs
How do you offer socialization in an online school?
Insight School of Minnesota (ISMN) students are more than just classmates. They're athletes, artists, volunteers, friends, and so much more. So even though ISMN is an online school, it's important that we offer field trips, dances (even a prom), and a graduation ceremony among many other in-person activities. It's all in support of an authentic public school experience that both teaches and socializes.
The courses that students take provide many chances to interact with other students through discussion threads and "virtual classrooms" where students are together at the same time communicating through two-way voice over IP, instant messaging, and application sharing.
Students have told us that they build great relationships with other students through the community–building opportunities we provide.
Will school dances be held? A graduation ceremony?
Yes, there will be dances and a graduation ceremony. Periodically, Insight School of Minnesota will hold field trips and events in different geographic locations throughout the state.
What about athletics and other extracurricular activities?
Students are encouraged to speak with their resident school district regarding the possibility of participating in extracurricular activities.
Does ISMN offer hearing and vision screenings?
As a school within the Brooklyn Center School District, students enrolled at ISMN may access the Heath Resource Center to learn about free and low-cost medical, dental, vision, and mental health services to youth of Brooklyn Center Schools and community ages 0–19.
